Case study – Newbury and Crookham Golf Club
Like many Golf HR clients Newbury and Crookham Golf Club on the Berkshire Hampshire border began using the human resources specialist after a recommendation from another golf club that was already using the HR firm in Oxfordshire.
As Newbury and Crookham Golf Club Manager Ed Richardson explained, the Golf HR team hit the ground running and have transformed the club’s approach to HR, bringing practices up to date and offering peace of mind.
“From the very start I was impressed by Carolyne and her team; they are very good, extremely helpful and very conscientious. A really professional operation they displayed a thoroughness and attention to detail – dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s and negotiating our HR which can be a minefield to the non-professional.
“Before being introduced to Golf HR we were doing our own thing, but the employee handbook and staff contracts had not been brought up to date and needed to be brought into line with current legislation, so it was fortuitous to be introduced.
“It has not just been the initial work either, there is something reassuring about the on-going support and back up that Carolyne provides which avoids any problems which you otherwise might end up resorting to a solicitor. She is always available and will get in touch promptly if we need help.
“Golf HR knows the issues inside out, the club’s circumstances and is familiar with the Employee Handbook and the contracts for each of the 13 staff we have here. That is a big weight of my mind and if we had a problem a solicitor would be a generalist, not a Golf HR specialist and much more expensive too.
“Like health and safety, HR is one of those responsibilities for a club manager which have to be done, but you know you are not an expert and it competes for your attention and that carries a risk; I now know all our HR needs are taken care of in a professional manner, freeing me to deal with the other club business I am responsible for.
“Moving forward we are continuing to update the contracts as we have some going back 20,25 years and that is being taken care of in a professional manner and it is good to have a resource like Golf HR available to help with any questions or issues we have.
“Carolyne and her team can make a real difference to a golf club and their understanding of HR and the issues that golf clubs face is why I would recommend her.”
