Southwick Park Golf Club had no consultant before engaging Golf HR and managed everything in house. As the club has quite a small team this was fine although James Lever, the Club Secretary, was aware that their procedures were out of date. They had come across a couple of challenges that highlighted these lack of procedures. It meant that they had a lack of confidence in what direction to take when managing them.
“I attended a GCMA meeting in Worthing where Carolyne of Golf HR gave a presentation on potential HR issues in the workplace. This presentation included the opportunity for a free audit of our processes and manuals which I took up. The audit confirmed that much of our contracts and handbook were out of date and it was a simple decision to engage Golf HR to help us with this going forward.
“Although not actively looking for outsourced support it became obvious that something was required to protect the club’s interests, as not knowing what the potential pitfalls were when dealing with staff issues was not a comfortable place to be.
“Although it is early days in our relationship with Golf HR, everything to date has been really good. I don’t have to fret or worry about what procedures to take and have up to date manuals and guidance. I feel the club has a safety net in place against any potential issues that may arise which is very reassuring.
“As the manager of what is a small business, it is very time consuming researching what might be the best route to take when dealing with any staff issues, even simple things such as sick pay. It helps having a team on call and the up to date information at hand, saving me time and ensuring the club is employing the correct processes.”
